Gingrich funder isn't trying to 'buy' the presidency, aide says

By NBC's Michael Isikoff

Sheldon Adelson, the billionaire casino mogul bankrolling Newt Gingrich’s super PAC isn’t trying to “buy” a presidency, his top political consultant tells NBC News.  He’s just following in the footsteps of another powerful business tycoon, Joseph Kennedy, father of President John F. Kennedy.

Billionaire Sheldon Adelson and his wife have given GOP presidential hopeful Newt Gingrich's super-PAC $10 million, the biggest cash infusion in the race for the White House. NBC's Michael Isikoff reports on the couple behind the contribution.

“I don’t think it’s buying a presidency any more than it was when Joe Kennedy helped his son,” Sig Rogich, a veteran Republican operative who serves as Adelson’s government affairs consultant, said in an interview about the massive donations that the casino mogul has made to Gingrich’s super PAC.

Adelson, 78, who has a personal fortune estimated at $21 billion, “plays to win” and “puts his money where his mouth is,” Rogich added.

In the last three weeks, Adelson and his Israeli-born wife Miriam have pumped $10 million into the Winning Our Future Super PAC. Those donations provided a critical cash infusion that helped revive Gingrich’s candidacy, bankrolling attack ads against Mitt Romney in South Carolina and now Florida.  They’ve also made the Adelsons the largest known donors so far in a presidential race awash with money under new rules allowing unlimited donations to so-called super PACs.

But the contributions have also raised new questions about Adelson’s outside role in influencing the campaign.  Those questions could intensify as a result of potentially provocative comments he has made about Israel uncovered by NBC News.

Scott Audette / Reuters

Republican presidential candidate former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich makes a point during the Republican presidential candidates debate in Jacksonville, Florida January 26, 2012.

Adelson owns a newspaper in Israel, 'Israel HaYom,' that backs conservative Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and adamantly opposes any peace settlement with the Palestinians.

But while Adelson and Gingrich have bonded on the issue of a hawkish Mideast policy, especially over the threat of a nuclear Iran, some of the casino mogul’s comments could prove embarrassing.

In a talk to an Israeli group in July, 2010, Adelson said he wished he had served in the Israeli Army rather than the U.S. military—and that he hoped his young son would come back to Israel and “be a sniper for the IDF,” a reference to the Israel Defense Forces. (YouTube video of speech)

“I am not Israeli. The uniform that I wore in the military, unfortunately, was not an Israeli uniform.  It was an American uniform, although my wife was in the IDF and one of my daughters was in the IDF ... our two little boys, one of whom will be bar mitzvahed tomorrow, hopefully he’ll come back-- his hobby is shooting -- and he’ll come back and be a sniper for the IDF,” Adelson said at the event.

“All we care about is being good Zionists, being good citizens of Israel, because even though I am not Israeli born, Israel is in my heart,” he said toward the end of his talk.

Asked about those comments, Rogich said: “No one could possibly ever think that he is anything but a loyal American.  He’s shown that time and time again.”

Rogich cited major donations that Adelson has made to medical research and other philanthropic causes that were far bigger than his political contributions, he said.

As for Israel, Rogich said: “I think that the fact that he is a Zionist and believes deeply in the preservation of Israel is so commendable.”

Newt Gingrich, who stirred controversy recently by calling the Palestinians "an invented people," appears on the cover of Sheldon Adelson's newspaper, Israel HaYom, blasting the Obama administration for its policies on Iran. "The Obama administration is denying reality," reads the headline in Hebrew. "The refusal to confront evil could cause a second Holocaust."

Gingrich, who stirred controversy recently by calling the Palestinians “an invented people,” appeared on the cover of Adelson’s Israeli newspaper blasting the Obama administration for its policies on Iran.

“The Obama administration is denying reality,” reads the headline in Hebrew. “The refusal to confront evil could cause a second Holocaust.”

When Gingrich was questioned about the money from Adelson this week, he immediately cited the casino mogul’s backing of Israel as a major reason he had received his support.

“Sheldon Adelson is very deeply concerned about the survival of Israel and believes that the Iranians represent a mortal threat to Israel and the United States,” Gingrich said in an interview while on the campaign trail in Florida.  “And he is deeply motivated by the question of having a commander-in-chief strong enough and willing to make sure the Iranians do not get nuclear weapons.”

Asked if he had promised the casino mogul anything in exchange for the money to the super PAC, Gingrich replied: “I promised him that I would seek to defend the United States and the United States allies.”

Adelson’s interests extend beyond Israel.  His personal fortune comes from a casino empire that stretches from the Vegas strip to the gambling havens of Singapore and Macau.  But his business interests have also provoked legal troubles.

Adelson’s company, the Las Vegas Sands,  disclosed last year that it was being investigated by the U.S. Justice Department and Securities and Exchange Commission over allegations by a former top company executive that Adelson directed him to put a local government official on its payroll in Macau — a potential violation of a U.S. anti-bribery law.  The firm has denied the allegations, saying they come from a lawsuit filed by a disgruntled former employee.

Adelson also earned a reputation in Las Vegas as a fierce foe of labor unions after he bought the legendary Sands Hotel, home base of Frank Sinatra’s Rat Pack, and then blew it up in 1996.

About 1,500 casino workers lost their jobs.  Adelson built a spectacular new hotel in its place, the Venetian, but locked out the state’s powerful Culinary Workers Union, which resulted in street protests and lawsuits.

Union official D. Taylor (sic) said that Adelson’s security officials at the Las Vegas Sands Hotel tried to have the protestors outside his hotel arrested, but Las Vegas police refused.

“He claimed that he owned the sidewalks,” Taylor said.  Georgia Democratic “congressman John Lewis led us on the sidewalks to say that nobody’s going to own the people on the sidewalks,” he added. “Sheldon then appealed the decision of the police not to arrest us all the way to the Supreme Court.”

Taylor said Adelson lost that battle — the courts upheld a finding of anti-labor practices against his company — but now the casino mogul thinks he can purchase a presidency.

“I think it’s very scary that any one candidate would be so beholden to one persona, a billionaire, who obviously has a very specific agenda that he wants to achieve,” said Taylor.

But Rogich, Adelson’s consultant, said that agenda consists of nothing more than trying to elect a good friend who he believes “would be a great president.”

“And that’s what this process is all about — that’s why we call it America,” he said. “You have the right to spend your money how you’d like to spend it.”

The Newtster won't like that, gays have been serving openly, bravely and honorably in the Israeli army for many years now. Come to think of it, shouldn't it have fallen apart and Israeli's enemies crushed and invaded it by now???

Teapublicans, these two clowns are NOT going anywhere; yours is a lost cause!

You see, pandering with lobbysts and big banks while paying 15% tax on a million dollar salaries aint gonna cut it folks.

Since the New Deal, Republicans (now Teapublicans) have been on the wrong side of every issue of concern to ordinary Americans; Social Security, the wars in Vietnam, Iraq and Afghanistan; equal rights, civil liberties, church- state separation, consumer issues, public education, reproductive freedom, national health care, labor issues, gun policy, campaign-finance reform, the environment and tax fairness.

No political party could remain so consistently wrong by accident.

The only rational conclusion is that, despite their cynical "family values" propaganda, the Tepublican Party is a criminal conspiracy to betray the interests of the American people in favor of plutocratic and corporate interests, and absolutist religious groups...

Paying 15% tax on billion dollar salaries (capital gains my ass) while the rest of us paying 34% tax on less than 40K a year is plain wrong, I dont care how you look at it.

This is not class warfare or whatever BS you wanna call it; it is plain arrogance and making a mockery out of hard working Americans.....Obama is right

HEY DOC, You are NEVER taxed 15% on Million $ salaries. Even Warren "The Liar" Buffet was taxed OVER 30% on salary earned. He then RISKED his money in the stock market. He is then taxed AGAIN 15% for profits from money risked in the stock market. So he is TAXED TWICE on the SAME salary earned. Buffet's POOR secretary earned over $200,000 last year. She too has stocks that she is only taxed at a 15% rate. Enough of the BS.

Nice for him that he has $10 million to throw away like it was toilet paper.

Where'd he steal it from?

Well, once again we see the uniquely GOP phenomenon, if they say one thing they are actually doing the exact opposite. NOT TRYING TO BUY A PRESIDENT? Who are those guys kidding? That's exactly what Mr. Adelson is trying to do. He's trying to buy a rabidly anti-Iran, pro-Israel President and heaven help us if he succeeds.

Shame on you, US Supreme Court. Shame on you for the Citizens United and related rulings. In one stroke of the pen you have sown the seeds of destruction of this great country.

If it were not for Adelson's millions Newt would be "road-kill" by now.

This issue must be addressed after the election.

So, is Adelson going to fund Newt's moon mission too? Will the moon turn out to be an Israeli colony? Mazaltov!

Gimme a break.

Time4Truth, re-read Doc's meesage---he didn't say salaries he said "capital gains my ass", meaning it's tax fraud based on the fact that the primary benefiiciaries of capital gains are majority of Congress and their major campaign donors, like Adelson. There should be a capital gains cap like there is for home sales: $250K for single persons and $500K for married couples, anything over that is considered income.

What do you mean taxed twice? Everybody's investments are taxed annually, whether it's a savings account, CD or bond investment, so I have no idea what your trying to allude to here?

Our tax code and Congress needs a MAJOR OVERHAUL where both should follow only what the US Constitution allows, period. Prior to the Civil War the States barred all corporate political donations, for the same reasons they did with churches, because back then the colonist remembered thesame types of tax abuses of King George II and British India Tea Company which is what brought abut the Declaration of Independence and resulting revolution! Like they say..those who forget history are doomed to repeat it. BIG Sigh.

Skip (#1.14), I agree, Doc (Tombstone by the way, great movie) was talking about the scam, courtesy of Congress, whereby hedge fund managers can treat their compensation for MANAGING other peoples money as capital gains at 15% the same as real investors who use their own money. And the same money is NOT taxed twice. If your salary is taxed, then what you have left over is disposable income and if you choose to invest it, only the income on that money is taxed, not the original capital invested, it's basic tax law. Time 4Truth is confused, but is correct in saying enough of the BS, it's just that he/she should be looking in the mirror when saying so. I would have to say that "Time 4Truth" is definitely a misnomer.

Now, if Newt is elected POTUS, will this automatically increase the handout we give to Israel each year, so they can build more settlements and then spit in our faces?

Oh, and Skip, as per the Moon thing, wouldn't it be great if the next time Mitt tears into Newt, Newt yells back: "To the Moon Alice, to the Moon!". Ah yes, we have a ravaged economy and a disappearing Middle Class, and Newt's is focused on the Moon, Frank Zappa would be proud!

Of course he's trying to buy the presidency. That's how we form a government now. It's bought and paid for. Congress, the presidency even our judicial system has been, like never before, completely corrupted by huge amounts of cash.

Prior to Citizens United we had laws and regulations that, though not always effective, at least pushed back at a fascist takeover of our government. Now the corrupted Supreme Court has thrown open the door to government for sale. The seeds of our destruction were sown in that court decision. Sown when we permitted the likes of Scalia and Thomas to infest our Supreme Court.

The only good thing here is that if Gingrich should get nominated (he wont) then the presidential election will be a foregone conclusion and the utter destruction of the republican party will be well on its way.

Here we have a billionaire who only wants to be a, "Good Zionist," bankrolling a two time adulterer who claims to have been, "redeemed," and is now a devout Catholic.

Adelson's fortune comes from gambling... an, addictive, (self) destructive activity that is considered a sin in both Judaism and Christianity. You couldn't make this stuff up!

Newt has annointed himself, "The Definer of Civilization," and, "Teacher of the Rules of Civilization." He constantly informs us his intellect is superior to most other humans and only a small percentage of the population can begin to appreciate his depth of understanding.

He and his supporters are salivating at the prospect of him,"dismantling,' President OBama in a debate and yet he was ripped apart by Romney last night... If he can't beat a manequin how is he gonna beat a real live Professor of Constitutional Law?

He certainly is a capable multi-tasker. While he was Speaker he simultaneously preached Christian Morality on the House Floor while impeaching Clinton for lying about sexual misconduct while he (Newt) was diddling his own (2nd!) mistress! Impressive!

The man is a megalomaniac and a colossal hypocrite who should never be elected to public office again.

Or what Goldman Sachs is to Obama. It was after all his top campaign contributer.

As usual, Obama snaps his fingers and his NBC lapdogs strap on their kneepads.

The Leftist loons have no problem with Obama and his laundry list of convicted criminal supporters (Soros, Rezko, Ayers, etc) or all of his political appointees that somehow never get prosecuted for cheating on their taxes. But, if a rich guy supports a Republican, he is somehow a shady individual.

Obama just announced a "new" DOJ taskforce to "investigate" financial "crime". I guess all of his media wh0res have forgotten that he already did this back in 2009.

This one will be as toothless as the last. There's no way that he wants to see bank mortgage cases being tried in open court. There would be a steady stream of Democrats being perp walked out of their offices. He just wants to keep such cases out of the hands of the SEC, the FBI, etc, so that he can control them through his partner-in-crime, Holder.

How about a Congressional investigation about why Obama's big campaign fundraisers can visit the White House and, almost immediately, there is a Presidential dictate that makes Soros or Buffet or Kaiser or one of the unions a truckload of money?

The Left has been screaming for criminal investigations of the banks. Once Obama and his henchmen are kicked out of the White House and the Senate (and those buildings are fumigated and completely decontaminated) there will be plenty of trials - but the Progressives won't like the results.

The Right wing extremists are so obsessed with getting Obama out of the White House they will accept a candidate who is backed by a rich Casino owner who admittedly would rather be an Israeli. How twisted can they get in their hatred? Adelson is supporting Gingrich solely because he promises if he is elected to take the U. S. into a war with Iran, to appease Israel.

Gingrich has proven himself to be a liar, a philanderer, a cheat, and a hypocrite yet he appeals to the Republican base more than an honest straightforward intelligent individual with no scandal on his record. This is America?

Truly, this country is engaged in a struggle between the decent, honest, hardworking, tax paying citizens and a coalition of ignorant, gullible, and misinformed rabble being led and lied to by greedy, selfish, dishonest, self righteous moguls.

The Supreme Court has opened the way for super rich greedy individuals with no interest in America except to line their pockets, to convince gullible fools to raise up a thoroughly disgusting and unprincipled bag of wind to be a candidate for President. This is America?

As one commentator said recently, "Surely we are better than this." I'm not sure we are. When an elected official feels free to publicly point her finger in face of the President in a hostile and lecturing manner, it seems we sink to new lows everyday. Surely this is not America.

time 4truth - Let's go over this FAUX News lie that Romney has "already been taxed" on his $42 million one more time, shall we?

Yes, Warren Buffett and every other working stiff in America pays the "regular" tax rate on his salary (plus Medicare and Social Security taxes).

But, you see, the GOP has decreed that people like Romney are "special". They don't have to take their earnings as salary, like us peons do. They can take it as "carried interest". They don't have to pay ANY taxes on "carried interest" at the time they "earn" it - they only have to pay capital gains taxes on it when they pull it out of the company vault for living expenses.

It would be like you or me getting our paycheck direct-deposited to our bank TAX FREE and only having to pay 15% tax on it when we pull it out. Oh, and no stinkin' payroll taxes, either!

The only reason Warren Buffett pays the tax rate he does is because he takes his salary honestly - as wages. Romney pays 13.4% because he takes ALL his as "carried interest".

From the Washington Post:

Obama outpaces GOP rivals — and his own 2008 results — in small donations

Even with low approval ratings and an uncertain path to reelection, President Obama is exceeding expectations in one area: His campaign is doing far better at attracting grass-roots financial support this year than his Republican rivals or his own historic effort in 2008, according to new contribution data.

The sheer scale of small donations, totaling $56 million for Obama and his party, has surprised many Democratic strategists and fundraisers, who feared that a sour economy would make it difficult for Obama to raise money from disenchanted and cash-strapped voters.

A Washington Post analysis shows that nearly half of his campaign contributions, and a quarter of the money he has raised for the Democratic Party, has come from donors giving less than $200. That's much higher than it was in 2008 and far beyond what the best-funded Republicans have managed.

Mitt Romney and Rick Perry, the leading GOP fundraisers, have embraced a traditional approach, focusing on big-dollar contributors who can fill coffers without the high overhead costs of a campaign targeting small donations, the analysis shows.

Capital gains and "carried interest" rates of 15% are ridiculous. Time to level the playing field and tax all income, regardless of the source, at a progressive rate:

25% above $60K

30% between $61K-$140K

35% between $141K- $340K

40% between $341K-$1M

45% on all income over $1M

NO deductions, no off-shoring of funds, no blind trusts. Personally, I would be at 35%, but currently pay no where near that amount through our ridiculous tax code and the loopholes and deductions I am able to exercise.

We have serious problems- the deficit, underfunded education, crumbling infrastructural base and the imperative investments in alternate clean energy we need to make before peak oil destroys our economy. AND NONE OF OUR PRIORITIES WILL EVER BE ADDRESSED BECAUSE ALL OF OUR POLITICIANS ARE BOUGHT AND PAID FOR BY THE WEALTHY.

I am no Obama fan, and certainly not a fan of any of the Republican candidates. The only way all of us can win, whether tea-party, Independent, Democrat or Republican, is to get the money- the legalized bribery- out of our political system. It's the most important thing for all Americans.

I'm shocked at how many things we all agree on, but stay divided against our collective best interests over nonsensical social issues. DIVIDED WE FALL.

I still can't believe the people that defend Mitt paying less than 15% on his "capital gains". He made money closing plants putting people out of work while raiding their pension plans. He made money on foreclosed home putting people on the street. He made money bilking Medicare. He did basically the same work as an officer worker but because he makes money a different way than a person working in an office he gets to pay less percentage in taxes yet the talking points of the right tells how capital gains create jobs. Just how is the capital gains of Mitt creating jobs other than the employees at a Swish or Cayman bank?

When is Bush going to stopped being blame for this mess? When has the blame for the great depression stopped being blamed on Hoover? Just not going to happen and your denial of the facts fall into the same boat. Oh and the other conflict with reality you RWNJs have "government doesn't create jobs" but why hasn't Obama created any jobs? Very Orwellian of you folks (like Cheney's "we'll fight this war for peace if it takes forever"). MtMike.......

Jobs were being lost at a rate of 700,000 a month when President Obama took office. That rate of loss stopped and now we are gaining jobs monthly. How is that a bad thing?

Rate if debt increase is the result of the needs for correction in the direction of the economy that was in place when President Obama took office.

The president of the United States does not set the price of gas. It is a commodity with the price driven by the market. Unless he nationalizes the oil companies there is little to nothing he can do regarding the price at the pump.

    Misery index???? Really?

Personal decisions regarding how much personal debt they want to take on is, well, personal.

The president has about the same control over college tuition cost as he does the price of gas.

"A majority of health plans reimburse providers on a fee-for-service basis, according to this NY Times article on healthcare reimbursement.

Many experts and economists believe this is a primary cause of our ever-increasing health care costs and therefore cause increasing health insurance premiums." The PPACA will not be fully enacted until 2014.

    From Factcheck.org

"Gingrich goes too far to say Obama has put more on the rolls than other presidents. We asked the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food and Nutrition service for month-by-month figures going back to January 2001. And they show that under President George W. Bush the number of recipients rose by nearly 14.7 million. Nothing before comes close to that.

And under Obama, the increase so far has been 14.2 million. To be exact, the program has so far grown by 444,574 fewer recipients during Obama's time in office than during Bush's.

It's possible that when the figures for January 2012 are available they will show that the gain under Obama has matched or exceeded the gain under Bush. But not if the short-term trend continues. The number getting food stamps declined by 43,528 in October."

MTMike...you may be able to fool most of the public with your so-called data, but there are actually some of us that are capable of critical thinking and understands that a Presiden entering office is ADOPTING the previous President's record and many sessions of Congress who passed bills a century (armed forces) or decades ago (farm bill) that are still being funded.

FYI --- CONGRESS, voted in by the citizenry with two competing interests and Agendas other than their legally defined duties (See US Constitiution), is the one who controls the PURSE (revenues and outlays) and fully responsible for all the DEBTS it incurs. Remeber, the Republicans authorized two military invasions of which this country sustained a huge amount a debt at the same time it determined the wealthy no longer needed to help shoulder these costs based on historical models that had kept this country relatively debt free.

Now if you want to break down specific costs of "Presidential pet legislation" please do so by listing them individually, but stop trying to scam the general public with data incured by numerous Presidents and sessions of Congress authorizing their funding.

I remember 30 or so years ago there there was a Constitution cartoon character that used to teach kids how their government operated...we could definitely use a sequel!

No matter: I zero in on "collapsed" posts. Those are the FIRST ones I read, because I know they are the "good" ones (and I am usually right). SpryLynnx, MtMike is ignoring the fact that Bush and the Republicans took a balanced budget of 2000 and turned it into a $6 trillion additional deficit in 8 years. The largest increase in the federal deficit which created a burden for this administration just to pay the interest on it. And they created a myth they they are responsible.

Also his unemployment figures are misleading since the unemployment was in free fall and does not stop the day Bush left office just as a train does not stop immediately when the brakes are applied.

The economic recovery was also hindered by a filibuster blockade of every Democrat jobs bill by the Republicans in congress.

Do we really want to turn over a bad economy created by those same Republicans that caused it?

Heck even Bush knew it was Illeagal to mandate health insurance it is not a saftey issue like seatbelts this is something that a private company wants all people to purchase because they make money off it now the President wants to force everyone to purchase something they may never need. And then have the US Treasury enforce it like they dont have to much to do already!

This Idiot's in charge now all of them should be in jail for insider trading they get to know what companies are selling what they want to mandate that everyone has to purchase then they buy up that stock before they let the public know whats going to be mandated. I remember not to long ago Martha Stewart was in jail for that reason sure it was her company but does not matter if they have inside info that should be considered insider trading PERIOD. DONT CARE IF IT BUSH OBAMA OR WHOEVER IS ELECTED TO REPLACE OBAMA.

If you are a member of congress, senate or the President you should have to have a blind trust that has the power to invest as they see fit you dont get the priviledge to say I DONT want Solyndra as I know they are going broke, But lets give them 1/2 billion dollars because they helped buy my Presidency.

I agree, Doc (Tombstone by the way, great movie) was talking about the scam, courtesy of Congress, whereby hedge fund managers can treat their compensation for MANAGING other peoples money as capital gains at 15% the same as real investors who use their own money. And the same money is NOT taxed twice. If your salary is taxed, then what you have left over is disposable income and if you choose to invest it, only the income on that money is taxed, not the original capital invested, it's basic tax law.

But we have to have tax funded elections. Give them enough to tour the country in a bus and make the media give them free ad space. Have a three month election cycle - debates every weekend - and then we vote. None of this billion dollar, two year long, bull@!$%#. Don’t talk about wealth as though it is something dirty, and then spend hundreds of millions of dollars trying to become President. Don’t say that money needs to be distributed to the poor so that everyone has the same opportunities, and then spend huge sums of money to buy TV spots. Don’t claim to be for change, and then run your campaign the same old way–with donations from rich industrialists who will count on your support once you are in the White House.

Obama claims to be against big business but certainly isn’t against receiving their big bucks. One of his donors is CEO of Duke Energy. Another is the CEO of Travel Guard, an affiliate of AiG. Yes, that’s the same AiG that got a huge government bailout.

Thanks Larry. Clinton was only able to reduce some of debt by working WITH Republicans who were capable of compromising at that time....that hasn't happened again since the Republican oligarchy (2000 - 2006), and as you correctly stated, America incurred an enormous debt while at the same time they substantially reducing the revenue by giving very generous tax breaks to wealthy citizens and corporations.

Obama is not exaclty an innocent party as his healthcare pet bill added another layer of public debt. However, I'm not naive to the fact this was a major economic problem that too many of our citizens were, and still are, in complete denial about, and is another of the many high speed train wrecks the public ignores unti we're in CRISIS MODE throwing band-aids on a festering wound because the two sides are constantly fighting like the Hatfields and McCoys, while our country continues to deteriorate.

Neither party has the perfect solution, as Congressmembers nor Presidents are experts in all matters and don't know any more than you or I do about medicine, economics, etc. so they seek the assistance of others, who may/may not be experts or have personal/political biases. Until the public can get out of the bad habit of believing everything they're told by politicians, media, teachers, parents, etc. and start educating themselves on these complex matters by seeking experts in that particular field who can offer equitable or realistic solutions that would or could agree on if they discussed them in a mature and professional manner---our society will only continue to regress.

Time4Truth - and anyone else who read his comment. Warren Buffet recently made a statement that even HE thought it was unfair and unbalanced that he should only have to pay 15% on his investment income. He agrees that there needs to be major tax reform in our country. Also he has previously stated that when he dies most of his fortune will be donated to various charities and good causes. He has also said he will leave money to his inheritors but specifically said that it will be a small percentage of his total worth. Granted, only time will tell but in the mean time just because Mr. Buffet is extremely wealthy don't forget he worked his way up to where he is from practically nothing over the course of his entire life. Most of his investment income has been derived from returns on large investments in smaller and start up companies that without his money would have gone bankrupt and costing people jobs. He's just so horrible, so horrible in fact he pays his secretary more money per year than most other people make in four years. He's just such a horrible guy. (That's sarcasm if your small minded pea brain is incapable of picking up on it.)

And Super PACs are the final nail in the coffin of American Freedoms and Equality. Supreme Court Justices, let me ask you this. A Corporation is nothing but a piece of paper filed with the government. I don't care if it has real PEOPLE working for it, that said Corporation is not a real person with the same rights as a living, breathing person. If a Corporation is a person because it has people working for it and makes money why not allow political donations from foreign nation's governments, they are people too right? Then Israel and Iran can donate as much money as they want to get us on their short leash.

Oh and also the republicans out there that claim to have family values and religion that are backing Newt, how do you sleep at night knowing that your savior has broken numerous commandments again and again? On top of that how can you actually think that someone who has previously declared BANKRUPTCY has the knowledge to fix our economy. I'd be happier if you just stopped hiding behind your false ideals and come clean: you simply can't handle an African American President. Oh yeah and I'm white, middle class, rural upbringing and Catholic in case you want to spout some nonsense that I'm biased. I'm not biased, I just have more than two brain cells working.

Roadhouse Blues you are right about the capital gains and managing accounts, but you left out one thing: when a fund manager manages an account he is using the investors money, should he make a million dollars on those investments it is considered capital gain, all the while he has not risked one penny of his personal funds only the investors. In my opinion this money should be considered earnings and taxed at the rate for earned income. The rhetorical answer to this question from tax experts and politicians is that capital gains have already been taxed at the source of investment, businesses and so on, therefore their reasoning is that to tax it again as earned income would be doubling the tax. This is all slight of hand since the fund manager is actually making money on an investors money, therefore his take should be taxed income!!!!!

It just doesn't get any sicker than this.

One can only hope the one chosen is not one of the "Chosen Ones", who have stolen all but the last free breath from the American public with the stench of the filth they all are.

Voters who want wars, torture, assassinations, "humanitarian" bombings in oil rich countries, indefinite detentions, drone attacks that kill the innocent, erosion of civil liberties, domestic war on the people (drug war), out-of-control debt and spending, graft and greed, crony capitalism, pandering to special interests, bailouts, more of the same, must NOT vote for Ron Paul.

Voters who want peace, a humane foreign policy, restoration of civil liberties, an end to the war on drugs, sound money, balanced budgets, honesty, integrity and transparency in government, and a President wholly committed to Constitutional government can vote for Ron Paul.

Interesting, sounds like we have competing business interests fighting over the US presidency.

Goldman Sachs supporting the President and Mitt Romney on one side

And Adelson and the Israelis supporting Gingrich on another side.

So who in this election is going to support the American People?

Ron Paul is a friend to the White Supremacists. Never mind his nutjob ideas about returning to the Gold standard, dissolving about 90% of the government (which IS, by the way, comprised of the American people).

President Obama supports the American people.

If the Tea drinkers would sit down and shut up and let him do what he was elected to do, he'd have been able to demonstrate that a lot more forcefully.

Still, the economy is getting better even with the dead weight of the regressives working tirelessly to weigh it down.

Watch for the vitriol against the president to grow worse, as the Republicans grow more desperate.

Go ahead and bring it. Just facts please...no B.S.

Starderup, Paul is the closest to our Founding Fathers than any of these corporate hacks! The gold standard was far better than what we have now, because it forced the banksters to BACK UP their holdings with actual collateral. The only collateral they have now is the FDIC and taxpayers because there's no way in heck the privately owned FED will accept any responsibilty for loaning banks OUR MONEY, which the FED only pays the cost of our US Treasury to print it, and not belonging to any branch of government, it has no regulatory authority to ensure the banks are operating ethically or legally.

Five presidents were assassinated (Jackson survived) every time they attempted to usurp the banksters powers. The FED is a private corporation owned by no. of unknown no. shareholders (think JP Morgan), it has never been audited by Congress, and was President Wilson's GIFT to the banksters, guys like Adelson, who were instrumental in obtaining his Presidency.

This guy would have Newt by the b@lls and would be Adelson's boy toy for four years if he successfully bought his Presidency, no differently than JP Morgan and his fellow banksters did with President Wilson who signed the Federal Reserve Act with a few Congressmembers all tied to the banks, who held a "special session" during Christmas break when majority of Congress wasn't even there to vote on it.

The People are there own worst enemys.

You do realize that when the world was on the Gold Standard during the 19th century, it was an era of international peace and it was largely the big bankers who advocated for its abolition.

Right he is not a shrewd investor but somehow he has accumulated over $20 billion. I am sure you know a lot of dumb people who have made that much money. I wish I was that dumb. It amuses me greatly as to what you people think is disasterous--if you just take a deep breath calm yourselves down and then take a look at what is happening in Greece, Italy, Spain and France you will see what Obama has in store for the United States. He is trying as hard as he can to duplicate the conditions that have caused the financial collapse of most of Europe. But of course you don't think rampant unemployment and riots in the streets are a disaster because after all the brilliant people are all convinced that European socialism is so much better than American capitalism. Capitalism has ups and downs, there is no way to avoid that. Socialism eliminates the ups and produces a constant stable downturn that results in the citizens of a country becoming dependent/slaves to their government. There is no middle class in a socialist country. The USSR didn't have a middle class, only universal poverty among the people who were not part of the bloated government. China didn't have a middle class until it allowed the 1% to come in and invest and create jobs and wealth and theemergence of a middle class. Take a look around the world, actually learn how to think. Believe what you see with your eyes, not what you are told by the democrats/socialists. Socialist policy like universal health care, cap and trade, and an expanded central government and regulations leads only to one thing, a powerful central government and a weak and dependent citizenry. Obama is promising you what he knows he can't deliver--look where these exact same promises have taken the people in Greece and Italy. That is where we are headed if you people continue to believe the lie that the government can take care of you by taking money from the 1% and giving it to you. The 1% doesnt have enough money to make you middle class citizens. The middle class is only possible because the 1% create the companies and the job opporutunites that make it possible. It may not be FAIR, but it is reality. If the government destroys the 1% the middle class will disapear. It isn't speculation it is reality (USSR, pre-capitalist China, Cuba, and soon the EU). Stop believing the LIE.

......You do realize that the 19th century was the 1800s? Era of international peace? Ever hear of the War of 1812. Ever hear of the Napoleanic Wars, Waterloo, the Franco-Prussian War, the Boer War in Africa, etc. I guess you are not a student of history.

Boyd, no one is trying to destroy the 1%, they are trying to stop the 1% from destroying the Middle Class, which is happening. Your China example is wonderful, for if what happened here a couple of years ago thanks to Wall Street, the big banks, etc., had happened in China, alot of Chinese 1% heads would have rolled by now, but here these scam artists got bailouts and bonuses, the about 13 million Middle Class lost their jobs. I think I prefer the Chinese method right about now.

There's a much more serious issue here. If Adelson can influence the president of the US to do his bidding for Israel, which foreign business owners of American companies will try to compete with Adelson using big money for influence for their countries?

This is the direct result of Roberts, Alito and the conservatives on the Supreme Court who banned McCain Ferguson campaign reform act and the Republicans who pitched a bitch when President Obama tried to effect campaign reforms in 2009.

Now, our US elections are open season for any Big Money man from a foreign country to spend his moolah to buy the president and God help us all...the entire government senator and congressman, one by one.

I cannot imagine a more disastrous situation than this to our voting process. No individual American on Main Street can match Adelson's Big Money influence. And he's the tip of the iceberg. But the real problem is that he actually believes his big money "entitles" him to special considerations for his country, his REAL country: Israel. THAT'S where the BIG problem lies. Anyone who denies this is a fool.

There isn't enough gold in the world to back even a fraction of the money in our economy. Going to a gold standard would raise the costs of everything manyfold while paying people nothing.

The reason we went off the gold standard is because gold could no longer support our country and this was many, many decades ago. People, get a clue for god sake. If we went on the gold standard we would turn into a country like Zimbabwe where the currency is totally worthless. This was in 2008 "10 million Zimbabwean dollar now valued below $4 on the black market". That's what would happen to the US dollar if we went back to the gold standard. We would tank.

"The 19th century (1801–1900) was a period in history marked by the collapse of the Spanish, Portuguese, Chinese, Holy Roman and Mughal empires. This paved the way for the growing influence of the British Empire, the German Empire, the United States and the Empire of Japan, spurring military conflicts."

There were wars all over the earth during that time. It was almost nonstop wars. So do a little reading on history and not the revisionist crap being shoveled by people that back Ron Paul.

Yes, the primary purpose of the EPA seems to be to get in the way of economic activty in this country, while addressing none of the pollution emitted by interantional corporations operating overseas. All it is doing is hurting us at home while the evil corporations you people hate so much continue to rake in billions without hiring Americans.

DunkinH, you are so ignorant of what that means. Like I said if we went on the gold standard it affects everything including YOUR PAY CHECK. If we went on the gold standard YOUR PAYCHECK WOULD BE WORTHLESS. The gold standard means that every single payment ANY PRIVATE CITIZEN, company or government agency pays has to be backed by enough gold ON HAND.

There is not enough gold in the world let alone the US to cover EVERY SINGLE PAYCHECK given every month in the US. Hell the gold in Fort Knox wouldn't cover more than a few minutes of the paychecks of everyone in the US.

I am a student of History, the US was on the gold standard when the economy collapsed in 1929. The Gold Standard was eliminated in 1933 in order to print enough money to get us out of the depression.

There is NO way to eliminate ups and downs in an economy. The gold standard cant do it, government regulations cant do it (if they could then Europe would not be experiencing a financial collapse). Regulations eventually kill an economy they eliminate the potential for an economy to improve and create a constant bad economy--everyone is equal because everyone is poor--everyone except the government bureaucrats that is.

It would be nice if people would actually learn how to think and to deal with reality. Get the government out of everything possible, keep the government small--that will keep rich people from wanting to buy it. Let the government save some money and have a rainy day fund so that during the times when the economy does have a down turn, which is inevitable, they have some money to help with unemployment and job training while the economy fixes itself, which it always does by itself, and it does it faster by itself if it doesn't have the government trying to help it.

                            DunkinH--

By your logic the only solution is that everybody should pollute as much as they want/can. But Ron Paul does argue that land owners should be able to sue corporations regarding dumping (I'm not sure what other types of pollution someone could sue for—what about air, etc.?)--a right not enjoyed by every land owner in every other country. So Paul transfers some of the power to rich land owners, implicitly allowing that rich/lucky people be able to sue after the fact.

There would also be the fact that to eliminate the EPA would be going backwards. Why would we want to pollute our own water and air--in effect, poisoning ourselves and our ecosystem, as some other countries are doing? We have done that in the past, and continue to do so to a certain extent, but hopefully you don't agree with poisoning ourselves.

I do my very best to buy American, for many reasons. At the very least, I next try to buy from responsible countries. I haven't researched many options as to making it harder/not possible for other countries to poison themselves and create greenhouse gases, but I am interested in other solutions; banning the EPA only hurts ourselves while obviously doing nothing to stop pollution in other countries.

So far this election cycle, Goldman Sachs has given $369,700 to Mitt Romney and $50,124 to Barack Obama.

If you REALLY don't like Goldman Sachs, I guess you'll have to vote for Obama this time, eh?

RAF, you're right. I always have to laugh when those that defend the big oil donations to the Republican as "Well they give to both parties". Yeah, they give a millions to Republicans and thousands to Democrats.

                            @ Boyd

Yeah we almost had the government on it's way out of debt when Clinton was in office with a Republican congress that wanted to stop him from doing anything but it was wasted when Bush stole the election and blew the ship out of the water with the approval of the very same congress that made Clinton balance the budget. What went wrong? It wasn't 9/11 because the tax cuts were before that.

Mr. Speaker, Mrs. Patricia Nordman of De Land, Fla., is an ardent and articulate opponent of communism, and until recently published the De Land Courier, which she dedicated to the purpose of alerting the public to the dangers of communism in America. At Mrs. Nordman's request, I include in the RECORD, under unanimous consent, the following "Current Communist Goals," which she identifies as an excerpt from "The Naked Communist," by Cleon Skousen.

Where is that Tyler guy when you need him?

                            DunkinH says,

"Dimwits like you are destroying the value of our currency and our economy will most certanly suffer for it."

"Two sides of the same coin is what you idiots are."

"Think about it, idiot." (this one directed at an individual)

And yet here he is, still posting.

I once described a certain group as "mouthbreathers" and was suspended. A group, not an individual. It was only personal if a person identified with that description.

Sandy I dont understand how you think that way, sure now that the FED has printed way more than they ever should of the gold standard idea is that we still use paper dollars to purchase stuff but there would only be so much paper money available because there is only so much gold available. you cant have we will use simple numbers make it simple for those who do not understand. 10 million dollars worth of gold means the fed can only print 10 million dollars worth of paper money that is backed by GOLD.

Ron Paul wants to get rid of the EPA. Do those of you who support him support this?

I am a Ron Paul supporter and I would hate to see the EPA dismantled. No candidate will ever be perfect for one individual, that's just not how it works. Does anyone who supports any candidate ever agree with everything they say? Ron Paul is important because he brings to the table things that no other candidate will ever talk about whether on the right or left. He has stated himself that he knows that less than 5% of his ideas would ever come to fruition if he were elected president. The problem with having ideas is that someone will always think they are crazy. This is why all the other candidates say nothing of substance other than "the other guy is bad". This is why there is never a successful politician running for higher office that has a shred of integrity or dares to speak the truth. They throw around these vague terms like "job creation" and "class warfare" that mean nothing. It seems the voters of this country want fluff and false promises rather than a honest discussion about how to improve things.

Any intelligent person knows the corporations run this country, not the people. Hence the theory that Ron Paul is "unelectable". If he were to be on the ballot it would be the first time in my life (10 or so presidential elections) I would not have to choose between corporate lackey A versus corporate lackey B. Unlikely I will ever get this chance again.

                                Noobster--

I’m glad you’re against dismantling the EPA. I agree with you that no candidate will ever be perfect, and also that someone not bought by corporations is ideal (one of the reasons I voted for Kucinich in the last democratic primary; that and he’s probably the politician closest to my ideals). That said, there must be things you REALLY like about this candidate, and/or you believe that his presence could “balance” Washington in some way I couldn’t foresee.

I’m assuming it’s not merely/mainly his “non-corporate”-ness that you’re interested in. I voted for Nader when he ran as president, but Nader’s views are very different from Paul’s. To me, Paul has a few interesting ideas within a larger, troublesome ideology that paints almost all government interference as bad.

I voted for (and will vote again for) Obama because I agree with him on the majority of his stances on issues I hold as most important, and also because he comes from the party I agree with over republicans a vast majority of the time. Regarding his corporate-ness, I feel he has to work within the system, even winning over corporate money, because that’s the system we’ve allowed as voters (that has been strengthened/largely created by corporations, I believe). On the other hand, Obama was successful in the end because of grassroots support. If Paul is able to get a lot of grassroots money, it may be in part because of his remarkably uncompromising ideology, which I find troubling in its possibility (probability?) to shift people too far to the side of some kind of belief in mythic personal responsibility and extreme individual rights that don’t account for life with others within a society (ok, that last phrasing is my biased way of analyzing his stance on individual rights).

If you feel like answering my main question of what you like about Paul, I’d be interested. If not, thanks for the civil post.

" Never mind his nutjob ideas about returning to the Gold standard"

You do realize that when the world was on the Gold Standard during the 19th century, it was an era of international peace and it was largely the big bankers who advocated for its abolition.

you do realize that it was manipulation of gold standard based currencies that set the stage for WW1 in the first place? you will not find a single real economist that thinks the gold standard is actually a good idea

don't people read history anymore? or do they just pick and choose whatever fits their religious/idealogical agenda?

"naked communist" a book written by a hack with a religious axe to grind.

Just what I knew you would say, you know how I know?

Skousen wrote in his book all the typical responses that Liberals, Socialists and Marxists use to attempt to discredit the truth. Attack the writer, call him a racist bigot, a religious zealot and all the rest of the diatribe you guys use. This is what makes the response so funny because every time you do it, your just proving the truth of what is written.

Leon Skousen was an FBI agent charged with cataloging all the information that the FBI has learned, everything the American Communist Party stood for or advocated. He did this for 15 years and with permission, he published it. He also wrote a book called the Naked Capitalist for those of you who want to learn about that political/economic philosophy also.

You might want to read it, if anything to expand your mind so you will know how to respond without getting laughed at.

don't people read history anymore? or do they just pick and choose whatever fits their religious/idealogical agenda?

Just like you, no they don't,

just like you, they pick and chose whatever fits their ideological agenda!

Gingrich is a perfect solution for the Republican party. They want so desperately to return to a bygone era. I thought it was back to the 19th century . . . the period of Robber Barons. That would make Romney perfect for them.

Apparently it's all the way back to primordial slime. Hence . . . Gingrich.

Actually they want to move the U.S. to the time period of the Tzars, and remake the American citizen into the image of the Russian peasant. It is either that, or remake the U.S. into the mold of India and their 1001 Caste System.

The only reason Fox has such a high number of viewers is because the right wing nut jobs are obsessive compulsive wackos! Sort of like The Enquirer sells so many tabloids.

Ummm, do you know that Oil is a commodity and is determined on a global basis? The cost of gas is actually higher during economic upticks and goes down during a bad economy. My guess is you weren't an economics major in college. My guess is your major was something like sheep herding or something.

I stated facts. I explained Fox's viewership, which you brought into the discussion, is so high because people are idiots. And I used facts to support my argument.

Texas A&I you are SUCH a liar! Why would someone who makes money from selling gas and oil complain that the cost of oil is higher now than it was when Bush left office. Which, by the way, that was just when he LEFT office. It was actually almost 50% higher than the current price, in the middle of Bush's second term, but I digress. Explain to me how someone who supposedly makes their money off selling the stuff, complains that the price is too high? Gees dude, if you're going to tell fantasies, at least get your stories straight. Now you have completely discredited ANYTHING you claim about yourself.

Youngblood ... that statement is true .. many take funds in programs and grants ... some are justified .. many are not.

I suppose if i took what i could get, i would pocket a little more money after taxes and all ... However .. I am lucky .. i work / worked hard and have been lucky to make a good living and i am one of those who prefer to make a little less $$$ and keep more freedoms ...

The Gov is getting into TOO many areas of private and business life .. i would rather take nothing and limit their control ....

Gov is a mess .. and thats the issue .. Obama is the current fool in charge .. who knows after NOV ... ALL of congress is basically a waste of space ...

youngblood he is lying. First he complains about the cost of oil/gas. Then he says he sells the stuff... now why would someone who sells oil complain that the price is too high? Everything he says is a lie. My guess is he employs nobody. Just another nobody on here making wild claims.

Besides, if he did sell oil, then he gets all kinds of tax benefits from the country. After all, Exxon Mobil pays no income taxes, thanks to Bush eliminating those right before he left office.

                                          Texas A&I

AS for FOX .. well like it or not they have 3 to 5 times the viewer of any other news network ... so either people like FOX the best or liberals are too uneducated to watch or listen to news ... given your idiotic comment .. the later is in effect

First off - only an idiot would equate cable television viewership to validity.

Second - a recent study indicated that people who watched no news at all were more accurately informed of the going-ons of the world when compared to people who watched Fox News.

Third - several years ago another study was done and found that the average education level of the Daily Show viewer was much higher than the average viewer of the O'Rielly show.

Any other insightful yammering you would like to share?

Texas A&I, please stop, you are making such an idiot out of yourself. You do know you can't drill for "gas" right? Gas is a byproduct of refined oil. Seriously dude, you are completely clueless. Besides, more drilling would do NOTHING for the price of oil. You do realize the US refineries are sending gas OUT of the country at this point because we produce more than we use right? Try watching some real news instead of the lies they say on Fox News.

The only countries that have cheap oil/gas run the oil industries. The government itself controls the production. Is that what you want? Seriously dude? You're just some knucklhead college kid in Texas that has absolutely NO clue what he/she is talking about huh? Time to go to class moron.

Actually, you baggers can more appropriately use the subtitle of Faux Inquirer to better describe the trash that floats the airwaves. Maybe your adept minds can wrap around this, Mega churches use subliminal messaging to mind flock the ignorant. Those same avenues of doing the same of the ignorant public looking for real news are and have been used by Faux News. Proof you say? A very good friend of sound mind has turned from a rational thinking person to a fanatical idiot who is willing to slit the throats of anyone who is of African American blood, Mexicans, on welfare, even though he is on the rolls, the elderly, because they drag the system down; I have caught him screaming at the Faux Newscast when they run commentaries about anyone who they are against, to the extent that we fear for the safety of the elderly mother he takes care of. All that comes out of his mouth is 4 letter words when he rambles on against anyone that Faux News puts down. Its getting so bad that there are hardly anyone that visits from the family, his friends do not come around anymore. The outside contact comes from Glenn Beck.com and only after he donates money for the cause. Btw I work 6 days a week, 60 hrs a week, have my own insurance and a union pension plan.

oh well, it didn't let me put the link, so I just copied and pasted for you. This is from the CNN/Money website. You can do a search for it if you like... but here is the text.

                                                      U.S. federal: -$156 million
U.S. state and local: $110 million
                                                      International: $15.2 billion

Exxon paid the most taxes last year of any U.S. company, by far -- but not a cent went to the IRS for income taxes. That's because the oil giant does business in some of the mostly highly taxed countries in the world. Want to extract petroleum in Nigeria? Be prepared to fork over up to 85% of your profit in tax payments.

Exxon doled out more than $15 billion in income tax payments to foreign countries last year. U.S. tax codes allow companies to take massive deductions in light of those international charges, which knocked Exxon's federal income-tax bill down into negative territory.

That said, Uncle Sam gets his money in other ways. Including sales taxes and duties, Exxon recorded $7.7 billion in U.S. tax costs last year, and paid even more overseas.

Its grand total in global taxes for the year? A whopping $78.6 billion. The company's effective income tax rate was a hefty 47%, its highest in three years.

"FOX has nothing to do with Obama spending more in 3 years then bush did in 8"

If you actually paid any attention to news other than the fake stuff from Fox you would know that the so called extra spending you claim Obama has done came from PRESIDENT BUSH. How? I am glad you ignore it and didn't ask, like most right wingers, so I will tell you. President Bush kept the cost of the two wars he started completely off the books. Bush LIED to the American people. President Obama decided to stop the Bush Lie and add the cost of the two Bush Wars into the deficit. When he did it skyrocketed. Those two wars have been driving the deficit up like an out of control freight train. So get a clue and blame BUSH.

Secondly, I am not going to prove the rest of what you have said wrong, I don't have that much time but...

"Mike fact is Right now gas per gallon cost over 80% today ... from the first day Obama took office"

The average gas price under President Bush was $4.12 a gallon. This was between June and August 2008 when Bush was still president. Right now the highest average gas price under President Obama was $3.82. Under President Obama the average gas price has never topped $4.00. BTW, gas plummeted to $1.62 right after Obama was elected because the gas companies were scared of him and what he might do to them. Once they found out they were in the clear they started slowy inching the prices back up again. They have used every little excuse to raise the price, all of them fake.

                                                        So stop lying.

LMAO........ They were scared of Mr Obama. You do realize they could all pullout of this country and try a one time ding on their financials and force the price of gas to European standards with ease. I have nothing against Mr Obama as a man and a father, just not a fan of this administrations policies. I have no issues with him being re-elected as long as we have Minority leaders Pelosi and Reid.

As they say the Repubs need the wealthy vote to get elected that is why the repubs want everyone to get a job and pay there share.

As for the Demos they need the poor vote to get elected that is why they keep giving out all these hand outs like welfare for those that CAN work but refuse to that is why they keep them down.

                                                          Simple to understand.

If liberals are so smart, why is Europe collapsing right in front of our eyes. I have a hard time understanding why you are unable to deal with reality. liberal policy doesn't work. We have proof, but you continue to think Obama is leading us down a path to prosperity. Obama policy is leading us to Greece. We can all see what is happening to Greece, to Italy, to Spain, and to France and it is the same social policy that Obama wants for us that has created the collapse...this isn't fantasy it is real. THINK-look around at the world--STOP BELIEVING THE LIE.

According to lead researcher Gordon Hodson, a psychologist at Brock University in Ontario. Low-intelligence adults tend to gravitate toward socially conservative ideologies, the study found. Those ideologies, in turn, stress hierarchy and resistance to change, attitudes that can contribute to prejudice.

Polling data and social and political science research do show that prejudice is more common in those who hold right-wing ideals that those of other political persuasions.

It is obvious that you have little to no understanding of the difference between Greece and The United States, especially in the arena of economics. Is George Soros making similar contributions in reality? Or only in the imaginations of the right wing?

I mean, the right wing credits Soros with founding and completely funding MoveOn.org based on a one-time donation he made something like 8 or 9 years after it was founded to fight the Clinton Impeachment movement.

Reality and the right wing have always had a difficult time existing in the same space, apparently.

Before that it was Reverend Wright. Before that it was ACORN. You can trace it back all the way to the "commies" taking over Hollywood.

Now, people like Adelson are real boogeymen - $10 million (that we know about) "invested" in the Presidential race so far, with no limit in sight. But the right doesn't know the difference.

cant be any worse than what Obama has done to this country in the short time he has been in charge.

Need to get rid of all this government overspending on everything from Union dues for government officials since when is the government taking advantage of its employees give me a break, the only good thing a union does in these days is keep a lazy person his job not sure if it is really a good thing but hey they can keep lazy people to get a paycheck so they can take part of it.

Quit trying to force people to buy stuff they don't want next thing you know everyone will have to purchase life insurance so the states wont have to bury anyone or the IRS will fine them, now we have the IRS working as a bill collector for private industries.

I have some invoice for the company that I work for that are not being paid will they collect it for my company also. I pay taxes just like some other americans do cant say all because alot of Obama supporters don't.

These Republicans, with the exception of Ron Paul, are going to do their best to bring about an American attack on Iran, even though their is no hard proof that Iran has any intention of building nuclear weapons.

All we have is retoric from Israel and Zionists in the US that they "think" Israel wants to build nuclear weapons. The same fools were certain that Iraq had WMD and was attempting to build nuclear weapons, which helped precipitate a war, which will cost the US over 3 trillion dollars.

Zionist warmongers like Ken Adelman and the Zionist Washington Post pushed the war in an editorial titled, “Cakewalk in Iraq.” Jewish supremacists Richard Perle and Paul Wolfowitz told you that Iraq would “Welcome us as liberators.” Iraq became the longest war in American history. Here is a report from USA Today: “Pentagon officials estimated for the first time Wednesday that up to 360,000 Iraq and Afghanistan veterans may have suffered traumatic brain injuries.” Now that’s not counting tens of thousands who have suffered maiming, amputations, or death in this war based on lies.

Do we want a repeat of the above results? Hell no!

Imagine if a German-American, a Japanese-American, or a Russian-American said they should have fought for Germany or Japan or the Russians. It's ok I guess if you fight for an ancestral country. Many Americans did this in the First World War. But it's a whole other issue when you denigrate wearing the American uniform. This guy is unappreciative of all that this country has given him. He's right about one thing...he should have gone to Israel, become an Israeli citizen and fought in their wars. Oh...he also wouldn't be the billionaire he is today.

I talked my son out of the fondness he had for Obama four years ago by pointing out that all of the primary candidates in both parties, except one, had gone to the Israeli lobby and promised to protect Israeli's interests with the blood of America's children, including his since he was of draft age. This time, I eliminated five of the seven candidates in the first Republican debate because they raised their hands in support of torture.

As for the "invented people" idea, Americans are the original "invented people" since we fit all of the descriptions the extreme Israeli's use to classify the Palestinians as such so the claim that makes them unfit to be a Nation doesn't work for me. Neither is it going to work too well for someone who wants to be President of the U.S. since he can't be president of a Nation whose people are unfit to be one.

Americans are tired of "the best government money can buy". The more money Newt raises from men like this, the more certain it is that he will be rejected. Perhaps he should register as "an agent of a foreign country" under that old cold war law.

Two states are the solution to the Palestinan problem, but both states have to acknowledge the right of the other state to exist. Right now Palestinian leadership will not do that and I have no problem with the US and it's government making a decision to support any country whose neighbors are determined to destroy them, and that includes Israel.

He is not accepting the money he has no controll over who donates to a super pac just like Obama has no controll over who donates to his super pac everyone should just drop it.

Obama has cost everyone in this country with the debt that he just doen't seem to get a grip on.

The government policy that has created the collapse of the EU economy is Obama policy. He is duplicating these policies and you think he is brilliant. Sure hate all the people who have been successful and worship all the people who have created nothing but poverty and riots in the streets. You think I am asleep, I am awake and actually looking at what is going on in the world. Socialism is a path to failure, not speculation just plain hard fact.

Are you saying there are no riots in Greece and Italy, that the EU is NOT on the verge of financial collapse? What do you have instead of a brain? The problem you Obama supporters have is that most people are actually smart enough to understand that following european socialist policy produces the exact same results that are taking place in Europe. Doing the same thing and expecting different results--you call that brilliant?

You can't blame fox news for what is happening to europe. it is socialist policy that has created the financial collapse in Europe, not fox news. Unbelievable.

Also would those Countries be in trouble if we still had good Regulations in Place before Obama's election to prevent the triggering of our past Recession? Go even further back to the time that the Stock Market sanctioned the sale of Junk Bonds and Penny Stocks. Could we have prevented the problems that these sales caused? Would the "Great Depression" still have occurred if we had strong regulations in place before the Stock Market crashed?

Go backwards in time to the end of the Vietnam War. Our Oil Companies lost their biggest buyer of their products when the Military cut back on the purchase of oil and gas. What was those Companies going to do. They were stuck with a huge surplus. Along came OPEC. Since OPEC was also affected, they welcomed our Big Oil's input into how to raise prices that benefited themselves and our Big Oil. Embargo we go. The general Public be dam*. PS: Those prices have steadily risen ever since. Could tougher Regulations have helped? Quite possibly if the General Public had know about the pact (Collusion = Treason) between OPEC and Big Oil and had our Government acted appropriately.

Put in the Big Oil blurb because, somehow, we always fail to heed the errors of the past.

As they can only read there news on this news agency and believe everything on here like the sheep they are. If they would take the time and actually listen to all the news agencies out there and take what you know is true you can find the truth on all networks just a little harder on here and the liberal media networks. Fox gives a point of view just like msnbc just like cnn and bbc news none of them will tell you the whole truth just like none of them will fabricate a story out of pure hate as they are responsible for the info that they put out there.

Msnbc will leave out the just enough info so you can tell just how bias they are.

The former House speaker said the current space program in the country is a "tragedy" and believes his "grandiose" ideas can help fix it.

"I am sick of being told we have to be timid and I'm sick of being told we have to be limited to technologies that are 50 years old," he said, noting that by 2020 he wants to be capable to go to Mars.

                                                                                          This from yesterdays MSNBC page.

Seriously, any Newt supporters, please justify the expense to colonize the moon.

How about Obama's Billionaire funder George Soros, who essentially OWNS MSNBC and several other outlets - like AOL's Huffington Post. Oh, but this supposed news agency won't mention their Billionaire boss owning the White House (number one covert contributer to OBAMA BABY) , will they. THIS is pure tyranny and ABSOLUTE arrogance by any news agency in a Democracy. PRAVDA could have learned something from these boys and girls.

Who do you think the rich people have to buy in order to have power the rich people have no power by themselves they have to get in bed with government in order to have power. The larger the government is the more power the rich people can have by buying it. If you want to stay free, shrink the government, the less powerful the government is the less likely the rich are to buy it. It stops being a good investment when it is small and weak and the people actually have and exercise their individual rights. Get a clue. Why do you think people like Soros and this guy backing Newt play this game. Government has the power. It is the government that is evil, we have to have one but lets keep it from owning us.

The new slogan will strictly be: "Of the Corporations, By the Corporations, For the Corporations". We will truly be Corporate America, a branch of the "One World Government".

If anyone is still in doubt, Google Libertarianism. Then Google our slate of Republicans (include those who have departed) who have professed to be Libertarians or lean towards Libertarianism. Next do the same for those Candidates who use or know the "Austrian School of Economics" system. Next, Google the "One World Government and One World Monetary" system. Then go back and Google which Candidates have had or still have connections to the Koch Bros. and then which has ties to the "American Enterprise Institute" and the AEI Trustees. PS: also Google "C" Street and its Guru.
